Anda Anastasescu is a pianist of the finest pedigree. She came close to winning the final of the Leeds Piano Competition in the year Murry Perahia triumphed, but went on to win the equally significant Debussy Piano Prize in Paris in 1974. She was proteged by her great compatriot Radu Lupu. Her career has developed beyond the concert platforms of the world’s major concert venues.

In the UK Anda Anastasescu has given premieres of works by Romanian composers Constantin Silvestri, George Enescu and Dinu Lipatti and in 1999 she was invited to premiere Lipatti’s Sinfonia Concertante in performances conducted by the late Yehudi Menuhin. She has been a consistent performer and promoter of Constantin Silvestri, particularly renowned for his conducting and stewardship of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in the 1960s and 1970s. Her performances at the Wigmore Hall established Silvestri as a ‘composer awaiting thorough investigation’ (International Piano).

In Romania, Anda founded the the Constantin Silvestri International Festival, Competition and Summer Academy, as well as starting the Silvestri Mini-PROMS in Bucharest and instigating, through this Foundation, the Silvestri Scholarships, awarded each year to young Romanian musicians to study in Britain.

As a conductor, studying with Sergiu Celibadache, she formed the London Schubert Players. In 2005 and 2006 Anda inititiated and was artisitic director of A Romanian Adventure, the first ever London Festival of Romanian composition. In 2008 Anda and her orchestra launched  Invitation to Composers, an international project spanning several years to promote new chamber music for large ensembles. This involved performances and workshops across Europe with performances in Trunch, Acle and North Walsham as well as the major concert venues in London , Paris , Bucharest et al. A range of CDs, now commercially available, have received high critical acclaim.

Anda was one of four women selected in the arts in Britain to receive the 2003 European Women of Achievement Certificate in recognition of an outstanding contribution to pan-European understand and progress that provides an inpritation to others’. In 2004 she was awarded the decoration Commander of the Order of Merit by the President of Romania.
