The ever-popular Norfolk Winds with David Morgan (piano) on September 19th performing a woodwind take on the LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS (the Royal Albert Hall event will have been the week before) with a programme to include Elgar’s Harmony Music no 1 and his Harmony Music no. 5 (his first composition of symphonic  scale), Poulenc’s witty and vivacious Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano, Taffanel’s Grande Fantaisie for Flute and Piano on Operatic Themes (Jean de Nivelle) and shorter pieces by Vaughan Williams, Gordon Jacob, Bach, Morgan, Parry and popular Proms encores.

Norfolk Winds are stalwarts of every Trunch season and always attract an enthusiastic audience. The group was formed in 2010 and comprises some of the most experienced and highly qualified woodwind players in the county. They often perform with the pianist and harpsichordist, David Morgan, extending the range of repertoire for combinations of flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon, and already several Norfolk-based and European-based composers have written music especially for the group. This arrangement also provides opportunities to perform in smaller combinations, including a wide range of trio sonatas and other baroque music. Described as ‘wonderfully talented musicians’ at a recent concert, Norfolk Winds have enjoyed some very creditable reviews in their public concerts.
